Past Continuous Tense in hindi | Examples & Formula

Past Continuous Tense:- अतीत/भूतकाल में जब कोई कार्य जारी था या चल रहा था तो Past Continuous tense का उपयोग किया जाता है ।

पहचान– बाक्य के अंत में ‘ रहा था, रही थी, रहे थे ’ आता है। अतीत में कोई भी कम हो रहा था बताने के लिए।

Structure: Subject + was/were + Verb1 + ing + Object.

Example-

I was eating. – मैं खा रहा था।
Rahul was going to market. – राहुल बाज़ार जा रहा था।
We were watching the movie. – हम फिल्म देख रहे थे।
They were playing. – वो खेल रहे थे।

Note: यदि Subject First Person Singular Number- I तो Was, Third Person Singular Number- He, She, It, Noun singular तो Was और बाकी You, We, They, Noun Plural के साथ Were का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

Negative: यदि कोई भी कार्य जारी नहीं था या नहीं हो रहा था तो Helping Verb अर्थात was/were के साथ Not लगाकर Past Continuous का Negative Sentence बनायेंगे।

Structure: Subject + was/were +not+ verb1 + ing + object.

Example-

We were not laughing. – हम हँस नहीं रहे थे।
I was not playing cricket. – मैं क्रिकेट नहीं खेल रहा था।
Rakesh was not writing this letter. – राकेश यह पत्र नहीं लिख रहा था।
You were watching T.V. – आप T.V देख रहे थे।

Interrogative: अतीत मे कोई कार्यो हो राहा था इसके related कोई भी साबाल हो जेसे- कपिल काम पर जा राहा था, कपिल कहाँ काम पर जा राहा था, केसे काम पर जा राहा था, क्या कपिल ट्रेन से काम पर जा राहा था….. इसतरह से। तो Helping Verb अर्थात was/were को Subject के आगे लायेंगे और प्रश्नबाचक शब्द (I.W) को सबसे पहले लिखकर Interrogative Sentence बनायेंगे ।

Structure: Was/Were + Subject + Verb1 + ing + Object?

I.W + was/were + Subject +Verb1 + ing + Object?

Example-

What were you reading? – तुम क्या पढ़ रहे थे?
Were you going to market? – क्या आप बाजार जा रहे थे?
Which game was she playing? – वह कौन सा खेल खेल रही थी?
When was he waiting for him? – वह कब उसका इंतजार कर रहा था?

Interro-Negative: Was/Were के साथ Not को संकुचन (Contraction) कोर के Interrogative-Negative Sentence बनाया जाता है। (जेसे- Was not- wasn’t, Were not- weren’t)

Structure: Was/Were + Subject + not + Verb + ing + object?

I.W + was/were + Subject + not + Verb + ing + object?

Example-

Wasn’t it raining yesterday? – क्या कल बारिश नहीं हो रही थी?
Wasn’t I talking to you? – क्या मैं आपसे बात नहीं कर रहा था?
Were you not sleeping? – क्या आपको नींद नहीं आ रही थी?
Why were you not coming yesterday? – आप कल क्यों नहीं आ रहे थे?
